SMBs embracing SaaS and Managed Services
Posted by Shiva on February 2, 2010
A recent article in eWeek magazine gives further proof to a trend we are seeing at Hubspan – that small and mid-sized enterprises are increasingly leaning toward software-as-a-service (SaaS) and managed services. The article quotes research by CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) showing 30 percent of 400 U.S. businesses surveyed plan to implement SaaS in 2010. That’s up from 22 percent and 14 percent, respectively, in the two prior years.
The biggest drivers for these respondents were lowering costs and maintaining a competitive edge. Other benefits not mentioned include rent versus own, opex rather than capex spending, no infrastructure changes, reduced IT complexity, and the ability to scale up or down quickly and easily.
Managed services or outsourcing of cloud-based solutions adds further benefit, particularly allowing you to focus on your core competencies and the business at hand and letting experts manage potentially complex IT challenges for you. CompTIA noted that the managed services model is ideally suited to fill a “skills gap” present at many companies.
At Hubspan we combine the best of both worlds: SaaS and managed services. Our WebSpan SaaS integration platform is delivered as a service, allowing customers to leverage our secure, highly scalable cloud solution and our expert team of client services professionals who manage all aspects of the integration process. The result is a cost-effective, agile approach to a range of business integration challenges, from file transfer or e-invoicing to advanced EDI and supply chain integration.
Based on the CompTIA research and our experience, it’s clear the economics and agility of SaaS and managed services make sense for companies of all sizes, large and small.
