Market Study: User & Desktop Environment Survey Results

Executive Summary: This survey looks at how end-users and IT are using and managing mobile devices, personal computer operating systems (OS) and Web browsers. On the mobile device front, IT shops are electing (or being forced) to not standardize on a single OS or platform for mobile devices used by employees. Instead, they are allowing multiple types of smart phones and handheld devices to access the IT infrastructure. However, uniformity for corporate PCs continues to be standard operating procedures, with Microsoft Windows XP remaining the dominant OS across enterprises of all sizes and Windows 7 slowly gaining ground. On the Web side, IE 8 and Firefox are the most widely used browsers and there is little indication of change.
