Google Feeling Heat from Bing

Posted by on June 10, 2010

Have to admit I had a “wow” moment when I went on Google’s home page this morning and was greeted by a full-color photograph rather than the normal white clean page that has been Google’s trademark. The first thought that went through my mind was “Google is copying Bing?”

Google has not been one to even admit Microsoft is a competitor in the search world, but this seems too obvious, as stunning photography has been Bing’s unique style since day one.

Ironic that this happens on the same day the media is reporting that Bing now has 10% of the search market share, stealing most of that from Yahoo!, and while still a large gap from Google’s share, a nice jump for Microsoft.

On top of this, Microsoft officially launched its “free” online version of its Office application suite this week, going head to head with Google apps, only with the added advantage of having a long-time user experience with standard Office applications.

As a former Microsoft employee and local Seattleite, it’s hard not to root for Microsoft in this battle.

Bing on!!
