Survey on ERP and B2B Integration Priorities & Challenges
Posted by Margaret Dawson on May 26, 2011
Each quarter, Hubspan conducts market research on key themes important to our customers and our business. We’ve looked at how browser and OS usage is impacting SaaS applications, the views and concerns around cloud security, and most recently, how enterprises are using ERP systems and B2B integration, as well as their priorities and challenges around these technologies.
Some of the results were not surprising, such as SAP holding a clear market leadership ranking, especially among larger enterprises. Others were more telling, such as how customization issues with nearly all ERP systems is the number one challenge facing companies of all sizes.
To help tackle some of these ERP challenges, the majority of folks surveyed have already implemented at least one B2B integration solution. According to respondents, the need to integrate with customers, suppliers and partners is driving B2B collaboration. Of the only 27% not using a B2B integration solution today, 30% of those respondents plan to deploy a solution in the near future.
However, the challenges of managing business integration internally may be more than what most IT departments can handle. Respondents cited the cost of integration as the greatest integration challenge facing companies today, while managing multiple solutions and interoperability with external partners are also creating complexity.
In looking at the results of this survey, it’s clear that solution providers need to make it easy and cost effective for customers to not only deploy and manage ERP and integration products, but do so without sacrificing security or performance. And in spite of the challenges around large ERP systems, companies are continuing to look to these solutions to centrally manage key business processes across the enterprise, and they need to extend those systems, business processes and information to external B2B communities.
